The Civil War is a time period that fascinates people to this day and many are just as fascinated with the famous saber that was used by the Americans.  The one that impressed at the time was the 1860 U.S. Heavy Cavalry Saber, also referred to as the “Old Wrist Breaker”. This name comes from the fact that it was substantially heavier than the lighter version and the one here by Cold Steel is a little less than three pounds.

This replica of the U.S. Heavy Cavalry Saber is well made. The 36 inch blade is made of 1055 carbon steel complete with a hard spring temper.  It is a long weapon measuring a total of 41.5 inches and it is one that needs practice before being able to be used. If you own this sword then you should also be aware that it is able to pass the British proof test, which is basically for quality assurance. The handle has a hand guard that is decoratively done and the grip ensures a good hold of the weapon.

This military sword is a great addition to any kind of collection, but also good to actually use in battle practice. If displayed, it will surely look good wherever it is placed. It can also be used for role playing, but whoever has it should first practice with it so that they can really handle this saber.
